On May 20, the Polish prosecutor’s office filed charges against Pawel K., a Polish citizen suspected of involvement in organizing a possible assassination attempt on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The man was detained back in April of last year.According to information published in the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita, the investigation revealed that Pawel K. agreed to cooperate with Russian military intelligence and established contacts with Russian individuals involved in military actions against Ukraine.

As part of the preparations for the possible assassination attempt on Zelensky, his duties included gathering and transmitting information about the security of Rzeszów-Jasionka Airport.

The suspicion of committing the crime was reported to the Polish prosecutor’s office by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine. The investigation also involved employees of the OPGU and the SBU, while the Polish prosecutor’s office, together with the Internal Security Agency, conducted a series of investigative actions.

Thanks to these efforts, substantial evidence was collected and important conclusions were drawn in the case.

Pawel K. was officially charged with cooperating with foreign intelligence to the detriment of Poland’s interests. If found guilty, he faces up to eight years in prison.

In April 2024, the SBU reported the arrest of a Pole in Poland who offered Russian special services to carry out an assassination attempt on Zelensky during his visit to Warsaw.

In November 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated in an interview with the British newspaper The Sun that Ukrainian special services had prevented at least five to six assassination attempts on his life since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
