China Ready to Explore Trade and Investment Deals with EU

As reported by the online media Ukrinform.

The Chinese government has expressed willingness to consider various options for trade and investment agreements with the European Union, emphasizing the mutual opportunities for both sides in the economy and trade.

At a briefing, this was confirmed by He Yadun, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, outlining Beijing’s stance on deepening cooperation with the EU.

“China is ready to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with the European Union and to explore the possibility of concluding various economic and trade agreements, including investment agreements”

According to official representatives, China and the EU have broad common interests and significant prospects for economic cooperation in trade and investment.

He Yadun also noted that Beijing has welcomed a series of recent Brussels agreements with other countries and the EU’s clear intention to diversify its supply chains.

The Comprehensive Agreement on Investment between the EU and China regulates the principles of mutual market access and a level playing field for investors on the territories of both sides. The document was signed in late 2020 after more than 35 rounds of negotiations, but in May 2021 the European Parliament suspended ratification in response to sanctions imposed against the EU by China.

In this context the parties expressed the EU’s strong interest in further economic engagement with China and the possibility of diversifying supplies in the future.

Context and Prospects for Cooperation

The statement underscores the willingness of the parties to continue dialogue and to consider new formats of interaction in the field of trade and investment within the framework of intergovernmental relations.
