Denis Bigus Confirms Role in Ukraine Military Counterintelligence

He talked about this on his YouTube channel

Denys Bihus, investigative journalist and founder of the Bihus.info project, confirmed his role as a freelance employee of the Military Counterintelligence Department of the Security Service of Ukraine. He announced this information in a video message on his YouTube channel, commenting on statements made by Member of Parliament Oleksiy Honcharenko.

Bihus noted that at the end of 2023, he left the ranks of the Patrol Police, after which he was involved in carrying out specific tasks within the military counterintelligence of the SBU. Thus, he became a freelance employee of this agency.

“I am proud that I can, even if just a little, help the Military Counterintelligence Department of the SBU with the war.”

The journalist also emphasized that he does not receive a salary from the state budget nor holds reservist status, and the ID card that Honcharenko published “gives almost nothing except the occasional opportunity to work with certain things and visit certain places.”

He responded to Honcharenko’s accusations by claiming that he deliberately distorted the name of the SBU department in the documents to mislead the public.

“When someone from the SBU messes up – our editorial team has filmed, is filming, and will continue to film about it. But when they are fighting a war – I have helped, am helping, and will help them in every way I can.”

Background and Context

In May, Bihus.Info published an investigation concerning the funding sources of the “Honcharenko Centers.” According to journalists, these centers are linked to the business of agrarian Oleg Bakhmatyuk, who is suspected of corruption.

After the publication, Honcharenko demanded that Bihus.Info provide information about the budget, donors, staff, and paid taxes. Bihus responded that donors do not influence the content of the investigations.

Bihus.Info is an independent editorial team specializing in investigative journalism, particularly in the areas of corruption within government bodies and law enforcement agencies.
