Weather in the Carpathians: Trends and Expectations

Climate changes in the mountainous region tend to reveal themselves earlier: as early as August, Carpathian climbers saw the first signs of winter on the summit of Pip Ivan, where snow also fell.

According to forecasts, daytime in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast is expected to be 8–10°C, with the region overall seeing 7–12°C. In the Carpathian highlands, the daytime temperature is forecast to be from 1 to 5°C. The wind is predominantly from the east, 5–10 m/s; visibility is good, in fog 600–900 m.

The region’s weather is shaped by cyclones from the Kara Sea, which throughout the day alternate between warm and cold spells and influence the temperature differences between valleys and peaks.

Such weather changes require caution for travelers and hikers: sudden cooling and snow cover can affect routes and travel conditions.
