EU Commissioner Marta Kos Visits Uzhhorod Schools to Support Ukraine’s EU Integration

EU Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, began her visit to Ukraine in Uzhhorod, visiting the Uzhhorod Lyceum named after Gabor Doyko, where instruction is conducted in Hungarian, and the Uzhhorod Lyceum No. 4 with Slovak-language instruction.

During her stay, she assessed the learning conditions and spoke with the leadership of the institutions about how linguistic and cultural rights of students are observed. Kos noted that the outlook on educational practices would help assess how Ukraine is moving toward European standards in education and the rights of national communities, which are key to EU membership.

According to the European Commissioner, after Uzhhorod her itinerary will take her to Lviv and Kyiv, where she will continue to study educational practices and Ukraine’s support in the process of European integration.

Concluding the mini-review in Uzhhorod, Kos outlined the priorities for further steps in reforming education and strengthening the rights of national communities in the context of Ukraine’s future membership in the EU.
