On its Thursday meeting, the EU parliament adopted the resolution “On Russia, the case of Alexei Navalny, the military build-up on Ukraine’s border and Russian attacks in the Czech Republic’ .

The move sees the European Union taking a tougher stance on Russia’s policies toward Ukraine.

The  resolution that got 548 votes is not binding but sends a clear message to the Russian Federation warning against ‘invasion’ in Ukraine.

The EU MPs warn   ‘that the price for such a violation of international law and norms would be severe”.

Among the possible punitive measures to such scenario the document  cites possible  disconnection of Russia from the SWIFT payment system, and  informs that ‘ all assets in the EU of oligarchs close to the Russian authorities and their families in the EU need to be frozen and their visas cancelled”.

Raising a concern over EU countries’ dependency on Russia’s gas&oil supplies, the documents offers to consider policies for blocking  Russia’s ‘Nord Stream” pipeline and construction of  its new nuclear power plants.
