In the early morning hours of Monday, September 29, in the town of Teterani, Prahova County, a major fire broke out at a hotel that had previously been closed due to fire safety violations. According to preliminary data, two people died as a result of the blaze.
The establishment was under the supervision of the Fire Safety Service, as it did not meet fire protection requirements. The fire was extinguished, and two charred individuals were found beneath the rubble. According to summary reports, the deceased were Nepali women aged 21 and 24; they were likely hotel employees and were on the attic.
According to sources, there were five people in the hotel at the time of the fire; three of them managed to escape the premises. Later it was confirmed that two Nepali women died, while the other guests and staff arrived from various countries.
ISU Prahova reported that the hotel had been closed about a week earlier due to fire safety violations. It also became known that the hotel owner was fined 100,000 lei. An inspection from September 16 revealed a number of deficiencies in fire protection, including the absence of internal and external hydrants and fire alarms.
It is noted that the hotel operated without official permits from the fire service. On September 19, the seal was removed from the site to carry out works to bring the premises up to safety requirements, but without authorization to conduct commercial activity.
Five fire engines, a rescue vehicle, a tanker, two fire aerial ladders, and an SMURD crew were deployed to extinguish the fire. The investigation is currently determining the exact causes of the fire and the circumstances of the hotel’s closure; official updates from the relevant services are awaited.
