Figma expands its presence in India, opening a local office and attracting Indian specialists to strengthen ties with one of the most active user communities and better compete for the developer audience alongside designers who are already working with the platform.

Founded in 2012 by Dylan Field and Evan Wallace, Figma gained popularity thanks to its browser-based interface in an era when many designers relied mainly on desktop applications. Despite initial skepticism, the service has become a staple tool for UX and product development teams. Now the company aims to repeat that success among developers, recognizing India as a key market to accelerate this evolution.

India has one of the largest developer communities in the world – an advantage that tech giants are already taking note of. About a third of Figma’s global users are developers, and the company is introducing features that connect design with engineering processes. However, a perception barrier remains: many Indian developers still see Figma more as a design tool than as a full product development platform.

“India has an incredibly large base of developers who may not yet consider Figma as their tool – that’s what we want to change.”

– Abhishek Mathur, Vice President of Engineering at Figma

“A lot of this is driven by the community, but we strive to be part of this activity and share the story of how to empower developers to be more than just those who write code.”

– Abhishek Mathur, Vice President of Engineering at Figma

On Wednesday, Figma opened a new office in Bengaluru as part of its global expansion strategy beyond the United States. The company’s headquarters are in San Francisco, and it also has offices in Tokyo, Singapore, London, Paris, Berlin, Sydney, and São Paulo.

Previously, user support in India was handled remotely via the team in Singapore. Now the company recognizes the value of local presence, as the user base and community activity in the country continue to grow.

Deepening Figma’s Presence in India

According to Mathur, India has always been a global innovation hub, and for Figma international markets remain a significant part of the platform’s usage.

According to the company, about 85% of Figma’s overall usage is international in nature, and India is the second-largest user base after the United States. By Q3 2025, Figma was serving users in 85% of India’s 28 states. Also, more than 40% of the top-100 companies on the BSE were Figma customers.

Figma’s global user base numbers about 13 million weekly active users, and the Friends of Figma community in India totals over 25,000 participants.

In May, the company introduced a new suite of AI tools aimed at expanding the platform’s value beyond design teams and competing not only with Adobe and Canva, but also with AI-coding platforms such as Replit and Lovable. One such feature is Figma Make, which allows building working web apps using natural-language prompts and to work on design and code in one space.

Mathur noted that India has become the largest market for Figma Make: users in the country have already created over 800,000 prototypes. There has also been growth in usage among developers thanks to Dev Mode, which was first launched in 2023.

The Bangalore office will initially focus on strengthening sales and marketing within the country. Indian clients include consumer startups and services such as CRED, Groww, Fynd, Swiggy, and Zomato, as well as IT services giants Infosys and TCS, and consumer companies Airtel, CARS24, and Myntra.

In 2024, roughly half of Figma’s revenue came from markets outside the U.S.; India is recognized as an “important market” for the company, though financial details are not currently disclosed. The Indian user base already influences product development: feedback from the local community has led to improved code export capabilities with higher quality output.

“We plan to continue hosting events and closely collaborating with our customers – from small to large – and, over time, perhaps add other capabilities,” Mathur concluded.

Figma’s drive to strengthen its position in India aligns with its global growth strategy: the company aims to make the platform more integrated for developers and designers, foster closer coordination between creative and engineering teams, and support the growth of the Indian market as a driver of innovation in digital design and code.
