According to Le Monde
The reappointed French prime minister Sébastien Lecornu commented on his return to the position, naming the main goal – passing France’s 2026 budget. The statement was reported by Le Monde.
I have no other ambitions than to get us out of this situation, which is objectively very difficult for everyone. The main thing is how we ensure that by December 31 there is the social security budget and the state budget, and that we cope with some emergencies
Lecornu also said that he “is not clinging to the post” and “hopes there won’t be a problem”
On October 6, Sébastien Lecornu submitted a resignation letter to President Emmanuel Macron after criticism from opponents. The president accepted it. Lecornu led the government for less than a month after his appointment on September 9 – on that day the previous prime minister François Bayrou resigned.
On October 10, French President Emmanuel Macron reappointed Sébastien Lecornu to the position of prime minister, extending his political mandate within the framework of the new government format.
The main goal of his return is to ensure the adoption of the 2026 budget, with a focus on social security and stable funding for the state, as well as overcoming the emergencies that faced the country in recent months.
Context and expectations for the government
Analysts are convinced that Lecornu’s priority is close coordination with Parliament to promptly adopt financial decisions that support citizens in the social security sphere, as well as ensure the state’s financial stability during a difficult economic situation.
