German Chancellor Friedrich Merz Backs Israel Against Iran

As reported by German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in a comment to the German TV channels ZDF and ARD during the G7 summit in Canada

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz expressed his support for Israel in its fight against Iran, stating that this country “is doing the dirty work for all of us.” These remarks were made during his comments to the German TV channels ZDF and ARD at the G7 summit held in Canada.

“This is dirty work that Israel is doing for all of us. The mullah regime has brought death and destruction to the world – terrorist attacks, killings, bloodshed, support for Hezbollah and Hamas.”

Merz also emphasized that the Iranian regime supported Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, and accused Tehran of supplying drones to Moscow, which are in turn used for attacks on Ukraine. He expressed respect for the actions of the Israeli army.

“All I can say is – immense respect for the courage shown by the Israeli leadership and army to do this. Otherwise, we might have seen this regime’s terror continue for months and years. And later – with nuclear weapons in their hands.”

Merz’s statements have become particularly relevant amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran, as well as global discussions on how to respond to threats from Tehran. Recently, the countries exchanged strikes on military targets. In particular, Israel attacked Iranian facilities involved in manufacturing centrifuges for uranium enrichment.

On the night of June 13, the Israel Defense Forces launched an air operation against Iran’s nuclear program, striking dozens of targets within Iran, including sites related to uranium enrichment.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the goal of this operation is “to strike Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, its ballistic missile factories, and military capabilities.” He emphasized that the operation will continue as long as necessary to achieve its objective.

Following the Israeli strikes, several countries closed their airspace. In response, Iran launched over 100 drones toward Israel.

On June 13 and 14, Israel carried out new airstrikes on Iranian cities housing key defense facilities and military bases.

At an emergency UN Security Council meeting on June 13, Iran officially accused the United States of involvement in the Israeli strikes on its territory. Washington denied these accusations and called on Tehran to negotiate over its nuclear program.
