According to CNN
New York – House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries endorsed Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic candidate for New York City mayor, ending a long pause that had drawn intense scrutiny.
“Zohran Mamdani has consistently focused on addressing affordability crises and has clearly pledged to be the mayor for all New Yorkers, including those who do not support his candidacy,” Jeffries said in a statement provided to The New York Times.
Hakeem Jeffries, who represents the Brooklyn district, was among several senior Democrats who for months had refused to back Mamdani after his surprise victory over former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the June primary.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul endorsed the candidate last month, while Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, also from Brooklyn, has yet to weigh in.
