Hinge Introduces Fairer Policy for Profile Violations with Improved Transparency

As reported by TechCrunch.

Hinge’s new policy on rule violations brings a fairer approach: the service will no longer remove an entire account for a single mistake in a profile, but flags the specific violation and removes its public visibility. As a result, your profile will remain active, but will be hidden from the Discover section until the mistake is corrected.

The company also explains the reason for the flag, sends an email and a push notification, and the app displays a prompt to update your profile.

Types of content that may be flagged as violations include:

  • offensive, pornographic, violent, or discriminatory in nature;
  • the spread of illegal activities or causing harm to others;
  • attempts to sell services or promote a business through the platform;
  • images or likenesses of other people without their consent, or minors without parental or guardian consent;
  • other similar grounds.

Benefits of the New Approach

The change is aimed at greater policy transparency and giving users the ability to adjust their content while staying safe on the platform and continuing to build genuine connections.

By giving people who are looking for matches the ability to update their content while remaining in good standing on Hinge, we fulfill our commitment to greater transparency and help well-intentioned users better understand our rules so they can focus on what really matters: creating meaningful connections,

– Jeff Dunn, Chief Risk Officer at Hinge

While Hinge cautions that repeated violations can lead to account bans, the overall aim of the new approach is to reduce accidental blocks and support constructive engagement among users.
