In the Khotyn community in Sumy region, the situation remains tense: daily settlements come under shelling from Russian troops, and fighting to liberate Ukrainian territories continues. The head of the community, Mykola Toryanik, shared with us up-to-date details of the events and the prospects for the near future.

“The situation is critical. As far as we know, a new unit has crossed to the other side. Just yesterday, 17 Molniya missiles hit Khotyn itself. They struck both with drones on fiber-optic lines, and the artillery shelling has been going on for three days, MLRS, KABs. This Sunday is very, very hard. One can, of course, raise their hands and shout: “All is lost, all is lost.” But nothing is lost”, –

Last week, the local council building in Khotyn burned down. The community leader noted that the event hit the community hard, but emphasized that destroying the building does not mean a loss of power, because Ukrainians are a people. According to him, despite the fire, a new building will eventually appear and our national flag will be raised.

According to the regional military administration, a private house in the Khotyn community was damaged by shelling.

At the end of August, it became known that Ukrainian forces had advanced north of Andriivka within the community. The Ukrainian Armed Forces restored control over Andriivka in June 2025, and Kindrativka was liberated at the end of July. As of September 29, according to DeepState, about 20.45 square kilometers have been liberated near Kindrativka, Andriivka, and Kostiantynivka.

It is important to stay informed through official sources and operational briefings to have an up-to-date picture of the safety of people and possible movements in the Khotyn community region.

Context of the events and outlook

The area remains under a tense operational situation: the defense forces continue to hold the line and plan further steps to restore control over nearby settlements. Updates arrive daily, so it is crucial to rely on official data for accurate information.

Residents of the community expect the situation to stabilize and for concrete government steps to restore peace and safety in the Khotyn community.
