In New York, Kamala Harris was wrapping up the first stops of her tour in support of her book “107 Days,” which reveals the phase of the campaign that did not lead her to the White House.

Behind the scenes, security tightened the perimeter: they rearranged bike parking, trash bins, and flower pots to create a protected path to her car.

Inside the hall, guests were served a cocktail titled “Ms. Vice President” with gin, cassis, cardamom, lemon, and honey, while outside leftover T-shirts bearing the slogan “She can do it!” were on sale in various sizes.

Analysts and aides to several politicians expressed skepticism about the book: they saw in it a revisiting of the 2024 victory. The word “strange” was heard most often.

A small group of loyalists to former President Joe Biden marked with sadness the anniversary of the debates, where Harris “went after” him. Several former members of her campaign privately express disagreement with some of the conclusions.

What’s next for Harris?

President Donald Trump sarcastically promised to buy the book; Vice President J.D. Vance said that if Harris had more days, the outcome might have been different.

It was Harris herself, with the book, already in its fifth printing a day after the official release, who described several moments on stage and in the elevator with Doug Emhoff, underscoring that the tour events are not only entertaining but also point to changes in perception.

Throngs of people attend the meetings, many paying over $100 for a ticket; among the attendees was Barnes & Noble CEO James Daunt, who noted strong sales after years when political books competed with other genres.

“I wrote the book with the aim of preserving the memory of where we were, just for the context of this moment, and then to think about where we should go from here,” Harris added in one of her exclusive interviews.

“We have to get out of our own thinking and out of our bubble, to think that we are the only participants in the conversation”

She is now 61, and she is trying to figure out what steps to take next: how to shape future party conversations, how to restore public trust, and how to respond to changes after this experience.

“Threats are not new to me. I have received threats throughout my career. I am not naive, and I try to be prudent, but I will not be afraid,” she told CNN, underscoring her commitment to fostering a sense of community in society.

She also pointed out that she needs to step out of her own thinking trap and feel part of a broader national conversation where many people want to be heard – not only through transactions but through genuine listening.

Although the book is titled “The Diary,” Harris did not keep a traditional diary, but it reflects responses to requests for support after Biden left office and her campaign continued.
