Khmelnytskyi Grenade Explosion Injures Two, One Undergoes Surgery

In Khmelnytskyi on September 8, an incident occurred near the site of a grenade explosion: a 45-year-old man, according to investigators, detonated an object from which an RGD-5 grenade likely exploded, in the yard of a high-rise building on Zarichanska Street. A pedestrian was injured and two parked cars were damaged.

A 59-year-old local resident who sustained shrapnel wounds near the scene was discharged from the city hospital on September 8. Doctors said his condition has stabilized; he is recovering and preparing for further observation.

Meanwhile, the condition of the other injured person, the 45-year-old man who lost his arm as a result of the explosion, is also receiving treatment. According to the head of the orthopedic department at Khmelnytskyi Regional Hospital Serhiy Pastukhov, the patient’s condition remains satisfactory; the amputation stump of the right forearm has already formed, today another plastic surgery is planned – closing the wound on the thigh.

According to law enforcement authorities, on September 8 at about 19:00, in the courtyard of a building on Zarichanska Street, an explosion occurred, injuring both men and damaging two cars that were parked nearby. The detained 45-year-old man has been taken to the hospital in custody; the question of his suspicion is currently being resolved.
