Kyiv Court Extends Nestor Shufrych’s Detention Over Treason Charges

In Kyiv, a court extended the preventive measure for Nestor Shufrych – detention for another 60 days, until November 29. The decision was made during a court session, a correspondent from the courtroom reported.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Shufrych is suspected of treason and financing actions aimed at overthrowing the constitutional order. It also mentions involvement in an illegal security formation and other episodes related to safeguarding property and influencing political decisions.

The prosecutors say that the next court hearings in this case are scheduled for November 5 and 19. The case materials mention that Shufrych acted as part of a group of individuals involved in registering real estate and land plots under occupation of certain territories.

According to the investigation, the deputy’s property, including a house and a plot in the town of Simeiz, was registered under the jurisdiction of the aggressor country during the occupation. It became part of the criminal proceedings connected with the use of illegal asset-management mechanisms.

In 2016, according to the investigation, a contract was concluded for protecting the property with an illegal armed formation connected with the Rosgvardiya on the territory of Crimea; subsequently, official transactions were allegedly transferred to Rosgvardiya as payment for guarding the property.

Also within the indictment are references to Shufrych’s contacts with Russian intelligence services: allegedly he was recruited by the FSB, and he carried out assignments related to the former deputy secretaries of the NSDC who left for Moscow in 2014.

According to the investigators, Shufrych’s political rhetoric publicly supported pro-Russian ideas and subversive activities against Ukraine. At the same time, the accused deny all charges, asserting that they did not commit treason.

On September 4, the Pechersky District Court of Kyiv began the preparatory hearing, and the case will proceed to a more detailed examination of the evidence and witnesses’ testimony.
