As reported by the online media Suspilne.
The Shevchenkivskyi District Court of Kyiv has decided to grant the motion of the lawyers of former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko. The case of treason, known as the “coal case,” will be heard by a panel of three judges. This information was released by the press service of the “European Solidarity” party.
Petro Poroshenko was charged with treason and aiding terrorist organizations back in 2021. The case concerns the purchase of coal from the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
The investigation claims that between 2014 and 2015, the “DPR” and “LPR” received at least 200 million hryvnias due to a conspiracy between Ukrainian officials and the top leadership of Russia. According to the investigation, Poroshenko allegedly facilitated preventing coal from South Africa from entering Ukraine.
In 2022, the Pecherskyi District Court of Kyiv imposed a preventive measure on Poroshenko in the form of a personal obligation, requiring him to regularly appear in court and surrender his passports for traveling abroad.
After the court hearing, Petro Poroshenko expressed the opinion that the case has a political undertone.
“According to the testimony of the head of the investigative group on this case, Mr. Koretskyi, he received direct instructions from the president’s office to falsify the criminal case, which formed the basis of the materials now being attempted to be submitted to the court. At that time, all these scenarios were published in the Telegram channels of Portnov, who passed away in Spain. And now they have simply been transferred into the criminal case.”
Poroshenko also noted that the “coal case” by the State Bureau of Investigation is based on testimonies from individuals such as Andriy Portnov, Illia Kyva, Nestor Shufrych, Andriy Derkach, and others.
