Two suspects were arrested and placed in custody on Saturday evening as part of the investigation into the theft of valuable jewelry from the Louvre in Paris, according to French media.
According to sources close to the case, one of the detainees was arrested at Roissy‑Charles de Gaulle airport while attempting to board a flight to Algeria.
The thieves deliberately chose the Apollo Gallery on the Louvre’s upper floor, where the crown jewels of France are kept.
In seven minutes, during the robbery, they smashed two securely protected display cases and stole nine items, the French Ministry of Culture said.
The investigation is ongoing, and information will be updated as new confirmations come in.
