Massive Russian Drone and Missile Strike Hits Ukraine on September 28

On the night of September 28, Russia launched a massive, coordinated strike on Ukrainian territory, involving strike drones and air- and sea-based missiles. The Ukrainian Air Force, in its morning briefing, confirmed the scale and variety of weapons used, indicating a systematic attack by the aggressor country.

According to the command of the Air Forces, the enemy used 643 air-attack assets: 593 Shahed-type strike drones, the Gerbera variant, and other modifications; 2 aeroballistic drones of the Banderol type; 2 X-47M2 ‘Kinzhal’ air-launched missiles; 38 Kh-101 cruise missiles; 8 Kalibr cruise missiles.

As of 10:30, Ukrainian air defense forces had destroyed or suppressed 611 targets that attacked Ukraine: 568 drones and 43 missiles. Hits were recorded on 5 missiles and 31 drones at 16 locations, with debris falling in 25 places across the country.

The main directions of the strikes were Kyiv and the surrounding region, Zaporizhzhia, Khmelnytskyi region, Sumy region, and Odesa region. In Kyiv, the building of the Institute of Cardiology was damaged. According to preliminary data, four people were killed in the capital, including a 12-year-old girl. Across Ukraine, at least 40 people were injured, including children.

Rescue services are actively working on evacuations and assisting the injured, while regional administrations coordinate measures to restore infrastructure and provide the population with essential resources. Monitoring of the situation continues, and experts assess the scale of destruction and the needs of different areas.
