Recent leaks suggest that Meta is preparing its first smart glasses with an embedded display. An official announcement is expected during the annual Connect event, scheduled for September 17.
A fragment of a confidential video, which was later removed from YouTube, nearly confirms the key parameters: a display placed on one of the lenses, and interaction via an EMG-enabled strap that records wrist muscle signals.
Leak context and Meta’s future plans
Orion is a prototype of glasses with a display, created to test the concept and gather feedback. Afterwards, the company may introduce a more affordable version, whose announcement is anticipated in 2025.
A partnership with EssilorLuxottica strengthens the position of glasses under the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands: the new devices are no longer viewed as a separate Meta product, but as part of the Ray-Ban and Oakley lineups, which aligns with previous rumors.
According to the leak, the display is located on the lens, and the control is provided by an EMG strap that recognizes wrist muscle signals, providing a convenient interface.
Bloomberg noted that the new glasses could cost around $800. There were also rumors about a camera on the bridge of the nose in the Oakley version, but these details have not yet been confirmed.
All of this is fueling interest in the upcoming announcement at Connect, where Meta plans to offer a new level of interaction with the real world.
