As Echo of the Caucasus writes
The third president of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili has been returned to Correctional Colony No. 12 to continue serving his sentence.
According to the Georgian Penitentiary Service, the transfer of a patient from a civilian hospital back to the penitentiary facility is carried out on the basis of a doctor’s decision, taking into account his health status.
“Since the health of the convict Mikheil Saakashvili is satisfactory, and he no longer requires inpatient treatment, he was discharged from the civilian-sector clinic and returned to Correctional Facility No. 12, where he will continue serving his sentence on general grounds,” the statement said.
According to previous steps, in May 2022 Saakashvili was transferred to the Vivamed clinic for inpatient treatment, where he remained under constant medical supervision.
Further details on the verdicts and prospects
Under the previously issued verdicts, Saakashvili is to remain in prison until April 1, 2034.
According to the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office, on November 6, criminal proceedings were opened against eight well-known opposition politicians, including former president Saakashvili, who is in custody. According to investigators, by using his social media pages and video appeals, he publicly urged supporters to “fight and engage in aggressive resistance,” as well as to seize government buildings and “topple the regime.”
The situation surrounding the case remains a subject of public discussion in the country.
