As reported by the online media Ukrinform.
In Berlin on November 6, a NATO TALK conference took place, at which NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte addressed the participants via a video address.
“Today we face many threats and challenges. Putin is throwing his forces at Ukraine, disregarding any losses. He seems dependent on aggression. China, North Korea, and Iran support the Russian war machine. And together they are ramping up their weapons and capabilities. They want to change the world order”
Strengthening Defense Capabilities and Cooperation with the EU
The alliance’s leader stressed that NATO has always stood as a shield against aggression, and today the transatlantic alliance remains the cornerstone of security in Europe. The Hague Summit produced decisions that are changing the game: allies must invest 5% of GDP in defense, increase the production of defense goods, and continue supporting Ukraine.
Rutte noted that NATO accounts for a significant portion of the world’s economic and military potential – two continents, 34 countries, and about a billion people.
“In matters of defense and other areas, NATO’s partnership with the European Union is more important than ever. We will continue to support Ukraine so that it can defend itself against Russia now and deter any aggression in the future. Germany is the strongest supporter of Ukraine in Europe. It hosts NATO’s Allied Command for Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine. It also participates in shaping NATO’s Priority Ukraine Needs List (PURL),” the secretary-general said.
He also stressed that American equipment funded by allies is quickly arriving in Ukraine. According to Rutte, at the latest meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, NATO support to ensure security and paths to a just and lasting peace were discussed. It is also expected that even after the war in Ukraine ends, Moscow will pose a challenge, and China’s stance may harden.
Rutte expressed the belief that the United States remains actively involved in strengthening European security and bolstering NATO, and expectations for greater involvement by European allies and Canada remain relevant for joint stability. In closing, he recalled that the meeting with Donald Trump took place at the end of October.
