New Threat in Kharkiv: Russian Forces Hide Mines Inside Firewood

As reported by the head of the Derhachiv City Military Administration Vyacheslav Zadorenko on the Telegram channel

In the border village of Kozacha Lopan in Kharkiv region, a new threat has emerged: Russian troops are disguising mine devices as firewood. Inside the log there is an explosive that can be triggered by a detonator. These data were provided on September 19 by Vyacheslav Zadorenko, head of the Derhachivska MVA. According to him, local residents sent a video showing one of these mines.

According to the official, such cases indicate a new tactic by the occupiers in mining civilian territories and their transport routes.

New danger: firewood mining in Kharkiv region

“Russian terrorists are using so-called ‘firewood decoys’, in which mines with detonators and initiation plates are planted. When a local resident sees such a log and decides to take it home to heat the stove, the mine inside detonates – the person dies.”

Earlier it became known that the occupiers actively use rocket artillery systems to remotely mine the terrain and scatter mines in the shape of ‘petals’ near settlements, complicating evacuation.

Residents are advised not to touch suspicious objects, not to move them, and to report them to law enforcement authorities immediately. De-mining and monitoring of the situation continue by the appropriate services, with modern technical means involved.

Authorities call for adhering to safety rules and monitoring official information sources, in order to quickly receive notices about mined zones and evacuation routes.

In this situation, the population must remain vigilant and follow the instructions of local services. Through joint efforts of authorities and citizens, it will be possible to reduce risks and ensure an appropriate response in case of discovering explosive devices.
