In the fourth week of the 2025 NFL season, Monday Night Football became a doubleheader: one game took place in Denver, and the other on South Beach in Miami.

The first matchup gave the Miami Dolphins their first win of the season – 27-21 over the New York Jets, who were still winless, while the Denver Broncos comfortably routed the Cincinnati Bengals without Joe Burrow, 28-3.

Here’s everything you need to know from these two games.

After a breakout rookie season, Bo Nix entered his second year with big expectations. However, after three weeks of the season the quarterback endured losses – his Broncos let late points slip in two games. But on Monday against the Bengals, Nix proved why he was considered a contender for the Offensive Rookie of the Year last season and why he’s seen as Denver’s future.

Nix at one point set a career high – 326 passing yards on 29-of-42 attempts, two touchdowns and one interception, and also ran for a six-yard touchdown that opened the scoring for Denver.

The 25-year-old quarterback’s breakout in 2025 helped the Broncos rack up 512 yards of offense and eased some of the concerns after four weeks.

“There will always be noise,” Nix said about the criticism that has echoed at the team throughout this season. “I’m sure after this win people will want to see a lot of what needs to be fixed or something else, so the noise will always be there.”

The Broncos immediately answered with a fast start: they trailed 0-3 after a Bengals field goal, but later surged ahead with a 28-point unanswered stretch and rose to 2-2.

The Nix rush opened the scoring for the hosts, after which receiver Marvin Mims Jr. ran 16 yards for a touchdown.

Late in the first half, Nix connected with Courtland Sutton for his first passing touchdown of the night, and in the closing moments – with RJ Harvey – for the night’s final touchdown, while Harvey recorded his first NFL touchdown.

The win put Denver back on track, though the defending champions – the Philadelphia Eagles – await them on Sunday.

“Obviously, at the start of the season all 31 other teams are trying to figure out who they are,” the Denver head coach Sean Payton said. “We’re not an exception. But it’s certainly been a step in the right direction. I believe many of the things we did today will carry over into the future. Now we quickly shift our focus to the team that just won the Super Bowl, so we celebrate this win and get back to work tomorrow.”

As for the Bengals, this is their second straight loss after their quarterback Joe Burrow sustained a toe injury.

His replacement, Jake Browning, again faced trouble – only 125 yards as he faced relentless pressure from Denver’s defense and a weak offensive line.

Cincinnati’s star receiving duo – Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins – combined for just 55 yards, with 23 of Chase’s yards marking his fourth-lowest single-game total of his career.

Tyreek Hill injury and Darren Waller’s return

Following this Monday’s win, the Dolphins faced yet another grim development – a serious injury to star receiver Tyreek Hill.

In the middle of the third quarter his knee buckled on a tackle as defenders brought him down. The athlete’s knee was bent at an awkward angle, after which medical staff quickly attended to him.

Hill received attention on the field, and the crowd clapped and cheered as he was escorted off the field on a stretcher to a nearby ambulance; doctors transported him to a local hospital for evaluation and knee monitoring.

According to coach Mike McDaniel, Hill was diagnosed with a dislocated knee. He will remain under hospital supervision overnight.

At the same time, the Dolphins maintained their lead over the Jets – 10-3, and managed to hold the lead in the fourth quarter to open with a win.

The big win was especially meaningful for Darren Waller, who debuted for Miami and scored two touchdowns, and also recorded the final onside kick that secured the win for the team.

Waller last played in the NFL on January 7, 2024 for the New York Giants. He had opted for retirement, but this summer he was traded from the Giants to the Dolphins – and he returned to the field.

And on Monday the 33-year-old veteran again contributed – two touchdowns and the decisive onside kick that sealed Miami’s victory.

“There are a lot of things to work on,” Waller said after the game. “It’s incredibly exciting just to be out there on the field, to spend the day there. And a bit of nerves, and different feelings – you know?”

Waller’s 2025 debut was a significant moment for Miami, which had been under pressure after three losses to start the season.

After the Jets game, head coach Aaron Glenn continued to search for a path to the team’s first win at the helm, while the Jets remained with ball-handling issues, including three fumbles at key moments of the game.
