Pechersky Court Extends MP Yevheniy Shevchenko’s Arrest Over Treason Charges

As reported by the online media Suspilne.

The Pechersk Court has decided to extend the detention of Member of Parliament Yevheniy Shevchenko for another two months. This occurred during the court hearing held on June 17, 2025, as reported by the court’s press service.

Recall that on November 14, 2024, Shevchenko was suspected of treason under Part 1 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. At that time, prosecutors from the Office of the Prosecutor General filed a motion to impose a preventive measure in the form of detention.

The investigation believes that the deputy regularly spread Russian narratives in his speeches and interviews, as well as posted statements on social media that harm Ukraine’s information security.

On November 15, 2024, the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv chose detention without bail as a preventive measure for Shevchenko for 60 days. Later, on January 7, 2025, the court extended this preventive measure, and on March 3, for another two months. On May 1, 2025, the detention was extended until June 21.

This case is connected to the fact that in April 2021, Shevchenko visited Minsk privately and met with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who is not recognized by many countries. In May of the same year, he was expelled from the parliamentary faction “Servant of the People.”

In May 2023, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, reported that Shevchenko participated in communications with Lukashenko. In November 2024, the MP appealed to Donald Trump asking for help to end the “dictatorship” in Ukraine and called on President Volodymyr Zelensky to engage in dialogue with Russia.

The Office of the President responded to these statements, noting that some deputies have “become confused” regarding national security issues and Ukraine’s interests. The representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, Andriy Yusov, also emphasized that Shevchenko has no connection to Ukrainian intelligence.

Yevheniy Shevchenko is a Zaporizhzhia entrepreneur and deputy who has repeatedly run for the Verkhovna Rada. In 2019, he was elected as a People’s Deputy of the IX convocation from the “Servant of the People” party. Previously, he frequently appeared on TV channels associated with Viktor Medvedchuk, as well as on Russia’s “Channel One.” He holds a higher education degree in law.
