Spokesperson for the Polish government Adam Shlapka announced the government’s next steps regarding financing Starlink for Ukrainian troops.
The President of Poland Karol Navrotsky signed a law that allows the government to continue funding subscription fees for Starlink terminals in Ukraine. This was reported by the Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov in his Telegram channel.
In times of war, this technology is of critical importance – to keep hospitals, schools, critical infrastructure, and frontline regions connected
According to Fedorov, there are currently more than 50,000 Starlink terminals operating in Ukraine, of which more than 29,000 were provided by partners from Poland.
On August 25, the President of Poland used his veto on a bill that regulated payments and free medical care for unemployed Ukrainians and extended temporary protection until March of the following year; at the same time, the document maintained Poland’s funding of Starlink terminals for Ukrainian troops.
Government spokesperson Adam Shlapka said that the government would submit its own bill to the Sejm to regulate aid to Ukrainians. He also added that the proposed document would ensure the preservation of Starlink funding for Ukrainian troops.
“We will implement all appropriate measures by the next Sejm session, so I hope that no one will hinder us any longer, because this is, above all, a matter of Poland’s interests”
On August 25–26, the Ukrainian Ministry of Digital Transformation reported ongoing negotiations with the Polish side regarding financing Starlink systems for Ukraine. On the same day, the head of the Polish president’s administration stated that access to Starlink for Ukraine would not be disconnected. It was also reported that the Ukrainian embassy in Warsaw continues consultations with the Polish government on the law to aid Ukrainians who are staying in Poland.
