Presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki, who successfully advanced to the second round of the Polish elections, expressed his willingness not to support Ukraine’s accession to NATO in exchange for political backing from the leader of the nationalist party “Confederation,” Sławomir Mentzen.
Nawrocki responded to Mentzen’s proposal on the social network X, where Mentzen, after finishing third in the first round of the elections, offered his support to voters on the condition of signing a declaration with several points. One of the key issues is the refusal to support Ukraine’s NATO membership.
“I accept the invitation and am ready to sign these proposals. We will discuss other details on Mr. Mentzen’s channel,” Nawrocki stated in his post.
Earlier, Sławomir Mentzen invited candidates Rafał Trzaskowski from the Civic Platform and Karol Nawrocki from the Law and Justice party to a discussion ahead of the second round of the presidential elections, which will take place on June 1.
Mentzen explained that his voters do not trust traditional media and are not influenced by propaganda; instead, they actively use social networks where he plans to win their votes.
According to information from RMF 24, Trzaskowski reviewed Mentzen’s demands and expressed readiness to discuss them, agreeing with many of them.
Among the main points that Mentzen proposes for candidates to sign are the refusal to send Polish troops to Ukraine and the refusal to ratify the law on Ukraine’s accession to NATO in the future.
Mentzen emphasized: “I decided to help my three million voters decide who to vote for in the second round. My voters are well-informed, and anyone who wants to gain their votes must convince them.”
The first round of the presidential elections in Poland took place on May 18. According to the results, Rafał Trzaskowski received 31.36% of the votes, Karol Nawrocki 29.54%, and Sławomir Mentzen, with 14.81%, was eliminated from the race.
