As reported by online media Suspilne.

In the town of Kremenets in the Ternopil region, restoration and renovation of the “Twins” House – a nationally significant architectural monument that is part of the Kremenets-Pochaiv Historical-Architectural Reserve – has begun. The building dates back to the 18th century, and scientific research is now underway here: measurements, studies of foundations, walls, the roof, and the surrounding environment.

The reserve director Vasyl Ilchysyn said that the Kremenets-Pochaiv DIAZ passed the selection of applications under the “Great Construction” program.

In the twin houses, research work continues and documentation is being developed for the future renovation. The Kremenets-DIAZ coordinates the processes in accordance with the reserve’s overall plan.

Thus they received funding for the preparation of scientific-project (design-and-estimate) documentation to produce a working project for the repair and restoration works on the national-significance architectural monument “Residential Building “Twins”, 18th century” on Medova Street. It is too early to talk about the estimate

Currently, work on the restoration project is underway, which should preserve the building’s historic authenticity. The surveys are planned to be completed by the end of the year, after which the project will be submitted for expert review.

Plans and Stages of Restoration

In the future, it is planned to restore the monument from inside and strengthen the structures. At the same time, work on details continues – from restoring the facades to restoring the roof.

After the foundation is stabilized, cracks eliminated, the facade and roof restored, we will think about internal works

Architects and restorers together with the design group are working on the details of the “Twins” house and its origins. A joint effort of specialists from the Ukrainian International Institute of Restoration and the Kremenets-Pochaiv DIAZ ensures a systematic approach to restoration.

An agreement has been signed between our Institute and the Kremenets-Pochaiv DIAZ to carry out the complex restoration works in the residential twin houses. This will involve restoration of facades and the roof

According to the specialists, the project has been divided into several parts, the first of which will be external restoration. Currently the main task is to remove negative factors that hinder the monument’s preservation, after which they will develop and implement internal restoration. The first stage is underway – comprehensive scientific studies of the building with the participation of architects-restorers, design engineers, archaeologists, surveyors, and chemists-technologists.

Right now the building is unsuitable for normal use. So first of all we must remove the negative factors that spoil the monument. The next step is to develop the project and interior restoration. The first stage – comprehensive scientific studies of the building. Architects-restorers, a designer, a design-expert who studies the condition of the building and its structures are at work. Also archaeologists, surveyors, and chemist-technologists

It is also noted that, since the twin houses have the status of a national significance monument, the reconstruction must be approved by the relevant authorities of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine.

We saw the depth of the foundation’s laying in the part where the facade is in the worst condition. There is a crack in the structure. So our main goal was to study how it propagates downward through the building to its base. This is a nationally significant monument, so the project must be coordinated with the Ministry of Culture. By the new year we plan to place the ready project on the table. Beginning restoration next year is feasible. The restoration will be carried out with preservation of the building’s historic value

The completion will be a joint examination and approval of documents for further funding of restoration, after which work on restoring facades, the roof, and interior spaces can move to the next stage.
