The German defense-technology giant Rheinmetall plans to expand its presence in Europe through the strategic acquisition of NVL BV & Co. KG and all of its subsidiary units as part of an agreement with the Lürssen Group.
“Rheinmetall has agreed with Lürssen Group on the key terms of the acquisition of Naval Vessels Lürssen (NVL BV & Co. KG, Bremen-Vegesack), the naval division of the Bremen shipyard, and all of its subsidiary companies. The parties intend to officially close the deal in the near future. Subject to approval by the relevant antitrust authorities, the parties aim to complete the acquisition at the beginning of 2026”
According to the group, this strategic acquisition will significantly broaden the company’s portfolio through the naval segment and strengthen Rheinmetall’s position as one of the leading providers of defense technologies in Germany and Europe. After completing the necessary regulatory procedures, the deal is expected to be finalized in 2026.

NVL is a private shipbuilding group with four shipyards in northern Germany and an international presence. The company employs about 2,100 people worldwide; in 2024 NVL reported around €1 billion in revenue and is regarded as a pioneer in autonomous surface systems development. Over more than 150 years NVL has built about 1,000 ships, delivering to more than fifty navies and coast guard authorities.
NVL is also known as a reliable player in the field of military shipbuilding, maintenance, and repair of ships. In 2021 the company was spun off from the yachting business and became an independent company, continuing its operations in the specialized defense segment.
