According to General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The Russian army is attempting to use the numerical superiority of infantry and the capabilities of drones to advance along the Lyman direction in the north of Donetsk region. The occupiers are also renewing attempts to break through on motorcycles. This assessment was expressed on September 16 by Maksym Bilousov, head of the communications department of the 60th Separate Mechanized Ingulets Brigade, during a live broadcast. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, yesterday on the Lyman direction there were 17 battles near Serednie, Stavki and near Grekivka, Derilove, Shandryholove, Kolodyazy, Torske. The day before, in the 11th Army Corps, they reported that Russian units disguise themselves as civilians in order to reach Yampil.
Overview of events on the Lyman direction
The occupiers continue to saturate the front line with infantry groups, leveraging the advantage in personnel and drone-operator crews, which creates additional pressure on our positions.
“We are now in the myth of Hercules and the Lernaean Hydra: its heads keep growing back. This is what I mean about Russian small-group assaults that keep pushing here and there. It requires a great concentration from our scouts to continually watch their movements from the sky and destroy them”
The approximate front line on the Lyman direction is shown conditionally on front-line maps, including data from DeepStateMap.
“They are outnumbered in infantry, and the number of drone-operator crews outweighs ours. We do everything to prevent the enemy from advancing”
The enemy’s ability to advance is hampered by attacks on the logistics of the defense forces in this direction. The enemy actively uses motorcycles to approach our positions faster. Our units monitor the situation on the ground, respond promptly to the enemy’s movements, and strike when possible. Systematic work is underway to repel the offensive to minimize losses and preserve critical supply routes.
Although the enemy looks for ways to expand their zone of influence, Ukrainian fighters act decisively: they destroy the Hydra’s heads when the opportunity arises, and keep the defense line at a high level. The situation on the Lyman direction remains tense, but front-line control is maintained at a high level thanks to coordinated unit actions and timely reconnaissance.
