As reported by the Security Service of Ukraine
The court handed down a verdict to a Russian military intelligence agent, sentencing him to 15 years in prison with asset confiscation for treason and other state crimes during the war. He is implicated in transmitting data that the enemy used to strike Ukraine in the Kyiv region, Sumy region, and Vinnytsia region.
According to investigators, the traitor’s main task was collecting intelligence on the locations of Ukrainian military facilities, personnel of the Defense Forces, and energy infrastructure facilities.
Additionally, he coordinated Russian forces’ air strikes on the specified regions, undermining Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
The suspect was detained in autumn 2024 in the Sumy region, where he had arrived to aid the enemy in striking the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It was found that a 24-year-old service member of one of the military units voluntarily left the service and came to the attention of Russia’s GRU after seeking easy earnings in Telegram channels.
The court proceedings confirmed the suspect’s guilt under three articles of the criminal code, including treason in wartime.
Summary of the court proceedings
The verdict represents a severe punishment for treason and for coordinating enemy actions against Ukraine during the war, as well as for using military and infrastructural resources for criminal purposes during martial law. Such cases underscore the high level of intelligence and sabotage activity by the aggressor and the accountability for treason during armed conflict.
