Striking critical infrastructure: the situation in Bilopillia and the authorities’ response
A family’s yard sustained damage as a result of a Russian MLRS strike.
Municipal services are operating as usual: all available building materials are being directed toward restoration and repair of the damage.
“Every day, ‘White Angels’ are on duty. They help us evacuate in an armored vehicle. For a while our evacuation slowed, and people began to return. But after problems with the railway and highway appeared, people understood and began to evacuate more. It’s a painful issue for people; many left and decided to return, probably not because of a better life, and now they are forced to evacuate again”
The heating season in Bilopillia community has not yet begun – they are expecting stable gas supply.
According to Zarko, 70–80% of people who applied for the 19,400 UAH wood grant have already received the funds. Currently demand for firewood is rising, while supply is decreasing.
A Bilopillia resident, Ms. Lyudmila, said that she recently received the funds.
“I will use them as intended. I submitted documents for the first time this year and received them”
According to Yuriy Zarko, new train schedules to Bilopillia will soon appear, as Ukrzaliznytsia is forced to adjust or suspend some routes for an indefinite period due to the security situation in Sumy region.
The situation in the region requires constant attention and coordination of actions by authorities and services to reduce risks and support the population.
