The Security Service of Ukraine, the SBU, has exposed a Russian spy network in Kharkiv region.

The network was organized by a Kharkiv native who moved to Donetsk in 2014. Russian agents collected data on social and political situation in the region, as well as on the location and movement of military equipment and personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The organizer of the network is a 49-year-old man who was born in Kharkiv but moved to the Russia-occupied Donetsk in 2014.

As part of the agent network, he recruited residents of Kharkiv, mostly of retirement age, who seek the reunification of the former Soviet republics and the restoration of the USSR.

The spy was recruited and acted on the instructions of the Russian Federation special services.

The SBU is investigating the case.
