Yurii Shchuko, Shyshov’s friend, claimed this in a program of ‘Priamyi’ TV channel. According to him, Shyshov repeatedly noticed surveillance. Unknown people also approached his girlfriend Bozhena Zholud.

‘They approached Shyshov and Bozhena, filmed them with a hidden camera. Unknown people pretended they just wanted to get acquainted with Bozhena while Vitaliy was aside. Then it turned out that a third person was filming them with a hidden camera.’

However, Shyshov did not report the surveillance to Ukrainian law enforcement agencies. According to Schuchko, he had contacts with Ukrainian secret services and was convinced that he was under the protection of the SBU.

‘Vitaliy was in contact with special services of Ukraine who supervised the actions of Belarusians in Ukraine. For some time, the SBU secretly monitored us and we seemed to be under protection. I do not know what happened then. I do not know why the man who went jogging was killed in the woods. This is a murder, and the special services of Ukraine should be held accountable for this murder’, the Belarusian activist stressed.

On August 2, it became known that Vitaliy Shyshov, the head of the Belarusian House in Ukraine, disappeared. On August 3, Shyshov was found hanged in one of Kyiv’s parks.
