On the night of May 20, 2025, the city of Sloviansk fell victim to a drone attack carried out by Russian forces. A “Geran-2” drone struck a residential area around 3:00 a.m., damaging seven private houses and a confectionery business. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries, as reported by Vadym Liakh, head of the Sloviansk military administration, in his Facebook post.

One of the city’s residents, Borys, shared his story. He had recently buried his wife and was home alone at the time of the explosion. The man recounted that after the powerful blast, his house lost power, windows were shattered, the roof was damaged, and there was no water supply. Part of the ceiling collapsed, and debris fell on his head. Borys shows the aftermath of the attack, noting that he was in the room during the explosion and had already cleaned up broken glass to avoid injury.

Damaged roofs and broken windows have become common consequences of the nighttime strike on Sloviansk. In the morning, municipal services, police, and volunteers were working at the scene, distributing building materials and advising residents on possible compensation for repairs.

Hanna Hlavyarskykh, a representative of the charitable foundation “Right to Protection,” explained that volunteers arrived to assist people by informing them about the “eRecovery” program and providing legal support to obtain compensation.

Despite the destruction, the city continues to live on, and its residents receive the necessary aid to recover after the attack. Sloviansk demonstrates remarkable resilience even under the challenging conditions of war.
