On June 18, 2025, in the temporarily occupied city of Berdyansk in Zaporizhzhia region, the so-called mayor of the city, Mykhailo Hrytsai, was shot dead. This information was confirmed by the press service of the Main Intelligence Directorate (MID) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
“On June 18, 2025, in the temporarily occupied Berdyansk of Zaporizhzhia region, the collaborator, state traitor, and war criminal Mykhailo Pavlovych Hrytsai was shot dead.”
According to the agency’s information, Mykhailo Hrytsai lived in Berdyansk and after the city’s occupation decided to cooperate with the Russian Federation. He held the position of so-called acting mayor, as well as deputy for infrastructure, housing and communal services, and the fuel and energy sector in the occupation administration.
Hrytsai was charged in absentia in a criminal case opened on April 1, 2022, under part 2 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, concerning state treason.
