The National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine have detained a suspect in the terrorist attack. The Main Directorate of the National Police in Zhytomyr Oblast.

On September 14, a blast occurred on the outskirts of Korostyshiv in Zhytomyr Oblast, killing a 34-year-old resident of Berdychiv. Law enforcement classified the incident as a terrorist attack involving Russian security services. The suspect in organizing the attack was detained and remanded in custody.
According to Ivanna Siletska, the press officer of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Zhytomyr Oblast, reports of the blast came in on Sunday evening. At the scene, traces indicated the use of a remotely controlled improvised device, and a power bank and a phone used for video surveillance were also found.
In the night of September 15, criminal police operatives, together with SBU officers and with the support of special-purpose police units, detained a 31-year-old resident of Korostyshiv. It was established that the suspect, recruited through Telegram channels of Russian security services, agreed to ‘cooperate’ and received instructions.
The man purchased components, independently built an explosive device, and disguised it as a fire extinguisher. He placed the mechanism in a stash, covered it with trash, and sent the exact coordinates to his handler. As a result of the blast, a 34-year-old Berdychiv resident was killed.
During searches of the detainee, law enforcement seized a smartphone containing evidence of his contacts with a Russian security service. The detainee is currently in custody. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
“In exchange for the promise of quick earnings” the suspect agreed to prepare a terrorist attack.
