The trip by U.S. President Donald Trump to the Indo-Pacific region will focus on economic deals related to trade and critical minerals. Three anonymous White House officials said this.

In Malaysia, Donald Trump will take part in signing a peace agreement and will have a one-on-one with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim; in Japan he will meet the new Prime Minister Sanae Takaiichi and Emperor Naruhito, in Korea the U.S. president’s schedule includes a meeting with President Moon Jae-in and a dinner with regional leaders, after which there will be a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Busan.

Answering the journalist’s question, a White House official said that the U.S. president intends to discuss with the Chinese leader the issue of Russian oil.

In Korea, the schedule includes a meeting with regional leaders and a signing of an agreement that would promote American shipping. “This is no secret that American shipbuilding has declined over the past few decades, so the president is very interested in its revival. We welcome capital and cooperation from allies to help the United States revive military shipbuilding production and submarine construction,” said a senior official in the Trump administration.
