Ukraine adopts EU 19th sanctions package against Russia with new Arctic restrictions

As reported by X (Twitter) Volodymyr Zelensky

President Volodymyr Zelensky signed new sanctions decisions that fully align Ukrainian jurisdiction with the European Union’s 19th package of sanctions against Russia. At the same time, new Ukrainian restrictions were introduced against Russian companies engaged in resource extraction in the Arctic. The head of state announced this on his X account on November 6.

According to the president, this package is “strong” and acts, among other things, against the export of Russian resources and the supply chains to Russia of electronic components. The overall impact of the 19th package on limiting Russia’s revenues is estimated at at least tens of billions of euros annually.

Key Elements of Sanctions Synchronization

“We continue to synchronize sanctions of partners under Ukrainian jurisdiction, and from today the EU’s 19th package of sanctions against Russia for this war takes effect in Ukraine”

– President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky

In addition, the president announced the introduction of new Ukrainian sanctions against Russian entities involved in Arctic resource extraction and, accordingly, financing Russia’s aggression. Zelensky emphasized that he hopes for support from partners in continuing this step.

The head of state also said that he had ordered the preparation of new decisions by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine regarding: entities in the sphere of Russian propaganda; entities in military production; collaborators.

Zelensky also announced a sanctions response to Russian restrictions against the Prime Minister of Ukraine and other government officials.

“Of course, Russian sanctions, unlike world sanctions, do not create real problems, but any Russian escalations, including propaganda, deserve a proper and tangible response”

– President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky
