Timeline of events in the Gaza Strip

On October 7, 2023, Hamas militants entered Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip, taking control of several towns and dozens of hostages. Israel responded with a counterterrorism operation that caused a humanitarian crisis and civilian casualties.

On January 15, 2025, Israel and Hamas signed a ceasefire agreement that came into force on January 19, 2025. The agreement provides for three stages: a full ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli troops from densely populated areas of the Gaza Strip, and the release of a portion of the hostages.

On March 18, 2025, the Israel Defense Forces announced the resumption of fighting in the Gaza Strip. On May 17, it was announced that a new Israeli offensive was planned to eliminate Hamas and free the hostages. Palestine reported significant casualties, including injuries and deaths among civilians.

In August 2025, Israel approved a plan to strengthen control over the city of Gaza and implemented measures to stabilize the region. By September 2025, Israel controlled approximately 40% of the city of Gaza, while humanitarian organizations continued to provide aid and monitor the situation.

Palestine and the international community continue to work on humanitarian deliveries and the reconstruction of infrastructure in Gaza, while monitoring the escalation and subsequent displacement of the population.
