Ukraine has handed over to the United States one of the members of an international cybercrime group, who was detained in Kyiv in April 2025. He is suspected of hacking attacks and extortion. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General.
The investigation established that members of this group carried out over 2,400 cyberattacks in various countries. Using Ryuk software, they demanded money from victims in exchange for restoring access to encrypted data. The total amount obtained by the criminals exceeds 100 million US dollars.
“Thanks to coordinated cooperation, Ukrainian law enforcement detained a foreign national in Kyiv in April 2025 at the request of the US. By decision of the Solomianskyi District Court of Kyiv, extradition arrest was applied to him.”
The agency also reported that after the completion of the extradition review and the entry into force of the decision on transfer, the suspect was handed over to the American side on June 18, 2025.
The Office of the Prosecutor General emphasized that it continues active cooperation with international partners in combating transnational cybercrime.
Additionally, on June 12, the National Bank of Ukraine announced the detection of a fraudulent cyber campaign that sent emails with malicious attachments mimicking official messages from the regulator.
On June 17, the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection warned about scammers offering Ukrainians easy online earnings by encouraging them to “like” hotels on online platforms in order to swindle money from citizens.
