The government has approved a new support package for teachers working in frontline communities. Teachers will receive a monthly allowance of 4,000 hryvnias after taxes.
According to Ukraine’s first female prime minister, Yulia Sviridenko, such a payment will cover about 25 thousand teachers in 84 communities across nine regions: Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson and Chernihiv.
Funds will be disbursed in October for the period from September 1 this year, enabling teachers to receive financial support quickly.
The 2026 state budget plans a 50% increase in teachers’ salaries. Sviridenko announced this during a meeting with participants of the national award Global Teacher Prize Ukraine, highlighting the importance of supporting educators in frontline regions.
Who will receive the allowance and how the accrual works
According to the government, the payment is targeted at teachers in frontline communities who face special working conditions. The program aims to stabilize the educational process and raise teachers’ motivation in challenging circumstances.
Outlook: Teachers’ salaries in 2026
Alongside the immediate support within the current year, long-term steps have been outlined: in the 2026 budget plans a roughly 50% increase in teachers’ salaries, which should positively affect pay levels and staffing at educational institutions.
This initiative directly affects the stability of the educational process and the welfare of teachers in regions with active hostilities, where financial support for educators is a key factor in delivering quality education to students.
