Ukrainian Forces Attack Volgograd Oil Refinery Disrupting Russian Oil Production

According to the press service of the Special Operations Forces

In the night of November 6, Deep Strike units of the Special Operations Forces, together with other units of the Defence Forces of Ukraine, carried out an attack on the Volgograd oil refinery in Russia. The SSO press service said this, noting that explosions and a fire were recorded at the target area.

According to the command, the refinery processes about 15 million tonnes of oil products per year, which accounts for roughly 5.6% of Russia’s total oil refining.

“Since the beginning of the year, the facility has repeatedly endured Ukrainian “kinetic sanctions”. The long-range drones of the SSO last reached the Volgograd refinery on September 18, after which the plant suspended operations”

The information emerged after Volgograd residents reported in large numbers overnight explosions and changes in the operation of the region’s facilities.

Earlier, Volgograd Oblast governor Andriy Bocharov stated that overnight the Russian Defense Ministry allegedly repelled a massive drone attack.

“As a result of falling debris, a fire broke out in the territory of the industrial zone in the Chervonoarmiy district. Fire services promptly began extinguishing”

According to local Russian online communities, it is in the Chervonoarmiy district of Volgograd that the Lukoil-Volgograd Refinery is located, and it was this refinery that was said to have been attacked overnight.

Since the start of 2025, Ukrainian Defence Forces allegedly conducted nearly 160 strikes on Russian oil production and refining facilities. According to SBU head Vasyl Maluk, 20 such strikes were recorded in September–October. He notes that these strikes affected the domestic market: a reduction of around 20% in the shortage of petroleum products, the shutdown of 37% of refining capacity, and shortages of products in 57 regions of Russia, and by the end of the year there could be restrictions on gasoline exports.
