As reported on the official website of the Verkhovna Rada

A resolution proposing the nomination of U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize has been registered in the Verkhovna Rada. The authors of the initiative belong to two factions: the “For the Future” group – Anna Skorohod, Anatoliy Urbansky, and Taras Batenko, and also from the “Restoration of Ukraine” group – Oleksandr Yurchenko and Anatoliy Burmich.

Currently the text of the resolution has not yet been officially released, but the statement mentions the initiative to nominate Donald Trump for one of the most prestigious world peace awards.

On September 23, during a United Nations General Assembly meeting, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he could receive the Nobel Peace Prize for his “achievements in stopping wars,” but for him that is not the main goal.

“Everyone says that I should receive the Nobel Peace Prize for each of these achievements, but for me the real reward will be my sons and daughters, who live and grow up together with my mothers and fathers; because millions of people no longer die in endless and senseless wars. I care more about saving lives than winning an award.”

– Donald Trump

During the discussion, the position of Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is also mentioned: he noted that he would nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize if he stopped Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Such statements underscore the dynamics of inter-parliamentary initiatives and international discussions about peace and awards.

Context and potential implications for international diplomacy

The initiative in the Verkhovna Rada demonstrates the Ukrainian parliamentarians’ active approach to the topic of peace and the role of world awards in the global discourse. Even at early stages of the resolution’s consideration, this decision draws attention to how political statements and nominations can influence the country’s image on the international arena and its relations with partners.

The prospects of such an initiative remain open: even if the document is not supported, the very fact of discussion underscores Ukraine’s role in seeking paths to global dialogue and peace.
