The Security Service of Ukraine said it has identified the organizer of the ordered crimes.
According to the SBU Telegram channel
The Security Service of Ukraine says it has prevented attempts by the Russian FSB to carry out a series of terrorist acts in Kyiv, including targeted killings of well-known Ukrainians, explosions in shopping and entertainment centers, and at one of the capital’s metro stations. The agency emphasized that it managed to identify the organizer of these crimes.
“The person turned out to be a resident of the temporarily occupied Crimea, who after the peninsula was seized began working for the Russian security service”
According to the SBU, the mentioned suspect was seeking “like-minded” individuals for their subsequent recruitment into the FSB’s intelligence apparatus.
“The Security Service documented an attempt to route into Kyiv a recruited enemy resident of the peninsula who crossed the border of our state through third countries. Upon arrival in Kyiv, the agent received from the Crimean resident the coordinates of a cache from which he was to take a Makarov pistol with a loaded magazine. It has been established that from this weapon the FSB tasked the agent with carrying out an ordered killing in Kyiv of a media figure”
According to the service, this person also received tasks from the Russian security services to prepare attacks in several shopping centers and at a Kyiv metro station during rush hour, when the venues were at their busiest.
“Because the subject is on the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine, comprehensive measures are under way to bring him to justice. The issue of qualifying the crimes of the executing agent is being resolved. The investigation into all participants in the FSB’s agent network continues”
The names of the mentioned individuals are not disclosed by the SBU.
Ukrainian law enforcement agencies regularly report the arrests of people they refer to as Russian agents. They are suspected of treason and sabotage on orders from Russian security services.
