As reported by the Twitter account of Andrii Sybiha
On June 20, the UN Security Council will hold an urgent meeting dedicated to the recent massive Russian airstrikes on Ukraine. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha announced this on the social network X.
Sybiha emphasized that a clear stance from the UN Security Council members is expected regarding the Russian attacks that have caused numerous civilian casualties. The Ukrainian side demands decisive actions to increase pressure on the aggressor and support Ukraine, including providing additional air defense capabilities.
“We expect the members of the UN Security Council to take a principled position on the Russian strikes that have resulted in numerous civilian casualties. We demand clear signals on the need to intensify pressure on the aggressor and strengthen Ukraine, including additional air defense capabilities.”
The minister also reminded that it has already been 100 days since Kyiv agreed to Washington’s proposal for a complete ceasefire, which could have been a step toward a genuine peace process.
However, according to Sybiha, Moscow continues to ignore this proposal and escalates terror against the civilian population. He stressed that only international community pressure can force Russia to choose the path of peace instead of war.
“Unfortunately, Moscow continues to reject it and intensifies terror against civilians. Only pressure can make Russia choose peace over war.”
Furthermore, the head of Ukraine’s foreign ministry noted that Russia’s war against Ukraine poses a serious threat to global stability.
He emphasized that security in Europe, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific region is closely interconnected, as the regimes in Moscow, Tehran, and Pyongyang cooperate to undermine international peace and security.
“The security of Europe, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific region is directly linked, as the regimes in Moscow, Tehran, and Pyongyang work together to undermine international peace and security. We must remain united and work together to counter these threats.”
