In Washington, the possibility of supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles is under consideration, but the final decision must be made by U.S. President Donald Trump.

In an interview with Fox News, Vice President J. D. Vance emphasized the need to rethink the United States’ role in the conflict, noting that Europeans carry a significant burden and actively purchase defense from the United States thanks to leadership’s policies. “And if we’re talking about Tomahawks, the final decision on this matter will be made by the president,” Vance said.

“I wanted the United States to stop pouring money and weapons into such a distant conflict, especially when I felt that Europeans, with all due respect to them, were not actually bearing their fair share of the burden. Thanks to the president’s leadership, Europeans are now buying weapons from the United States, rather than receiving them directly from us. And when it comes to “Tomahawks,” the final decision on this matter will be made by the president.”

According to Vance, Trump will act in the interests of the United States, and this will become a key principle of his foreign and defense policy.

“We will apply the same approach when answering questions about the Tomahawks. I will give the floor to the president, but I know that we are currently discussing this issue”

Earlier, U.S. media reported that during a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed President Trump with a request to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles.

Foreign Minister Andrii Sibiga noted that Zelensky and Trump discussed the approach to lifting the taboo on supplying weapons to Ukraine during the meeting at the General Assembly.

Prospects and Implications for Regional Security

While the discussions continue, the final decision depends on the policy of the American leader. Such steps could affect regional security and the future support for Ukraine from the United States and its allies.
