On the eve of the planned meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, Washington sent Moscow a list of Americans serving sentences in Russia. This list, published by Reuters, contains information about nine individuals, most of whom were detained and convicted after 2022 for various criminal offenses.

Among the people included in the list are:

Stephen Hubbard – a 72-year-old man sentenced in October 2024 to 6 years and 10 months in a penal colony on charges of mercenary activity. He was detained in Russia after joining the territorial defense in Izyum, where he had lived since 2014.

Robert Gilman – a 30-year-old US and Polish citizen, former marine, sentenced in October 2024 to 7 years of strict regime for assaulting prison staff while serving time for a fight with a police officer.

Gordon Black – a US Army sergeant who arrived in Vladivostok in 2024. He was accused of assault and theft of 10,000 rubles, for which the court sentenced him to 3 years and 9 months in a penal colony, later reduced to 3 years and 2 months.

Joseph Schneider – sentenced in December 2024 to 6 years in a penal colony for attempting to kidnap his four-year-old son, who was living with his mother in Russia.

Joseph Taiter – arrested in August 2024 for insulting staff at a Moscow hotel, later ordered to undergo compulsory treatment for assaulting a police officer.

Michael Travis Leek – sentenced in July 2024 to 13 years in a penal colony for attempted drug trafficking. He was detained in June 2023 on charges of packaging and distributing drugs.

Robert Woodland – born in Russia, adopted by Americans, who returned to the Russian Federation and worked as an English teacher. In July 2024, he was sentenced to 12.5 years of strict regime for attempted drug sales, later reduced to 9.5 years.

Eugene Spector – born in Russia but moved to the US. He is serving 3.5 years for bribery and was charged with espionage in August 2023.

David Barnes – arrested in 2022 on charges of sexual assault against two minors. He was sentenced to 21.5 years in prison following a complaint from his ex-wife, a Russian citizen.

Andre Khachaturyan – an American of Armenian descent, sentenced in 2023 to 8.5 years in prison for arms trafficking. He was detained at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport with firearms while traveling from California to Armenia.
