As stated in the invitation letter by President of the European Council António Costa
Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, will speak at the European Union Council meeting scheduled for June 26-27. This information was confirmed by the President of the EU Council, António Costa, in his invitation letter.
Over the course of two days, representatives of EU member states will discuss important issues such as geoeconomic challenges, the competitiveness of the European Union, as well as defense and security matters, including Russia’s war against Ukraine.
The meeting will begin with an exchange of views between the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and the Council members, followed by a meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss current issues concerning Ukraine.
“Ukraine is steadfastly making efforts to ensure a genuine peace process. And the EU will remain equally steadfast in its support for Ukraine. Our goal remains unchanged – to end Russia’s aggressive war and to build a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in Ukraine based on the principles of the UN Charter and international law. We will summarize the rapidly changing diplomatic context, monitor the EU’s support, and consider Ukraine’s path to EU membership.”
The European Union Council consists of 27 national ministers representing various sectors, as well as one European Commissioner responsible for that sector, who does not have voting rights. For example, during discussions on agricultural policy, ministers of agriculture from all EU countries and the relevant European Commissioner are present at the meeting.
Additionally, Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to attend the G7 summit in Canada from June 15-17, and the NATO summit in The Hague on June 24-25.
