In a meeting with the Ukrainian goverment,  Volodymyr Zelensky asked Prime Minister Denis Shmygal and Health Minister Maksym Stepanov to upgrade Covid-related coordination with regional authorities to advance with the vaccination plan.

‘By Independence Day, the most of Ukrainians that need Covid-19 vaccination, must get a vaccine. The vaccination campaign must be accelerated. Besides, information campaigns are needed to make people aware of its importance. It is the only effective way of tackling the pandemic,’ said Zelensky.

Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmygal informed that over 759 thousand people were already vaccinated. He also stated that it was made possible to ‘give a vaccine to 80-100 thousand Ukrainians daily’.

Health Minister Maksym Stepanov added that May vaccines’ supply would allow to  administer vaccines for  ‘400-500 thousand people daily’ once the doses were redistributed swiftly.  The health official assured that vaccination rates were to be stepped up as the country had already 11 thousand vaccination points.

Digital Transformation Minister Mykhaylo Fedorov briefed the meeting on the plans for Covid-19 certificate introduction that will follow the EU standards.

Reports show that Easter holidays slowed down vaccination campaign with some regions failing to administer any vaccines on May 3 while  the previous day saw vaccination going only in three regions.
